De aanleiding voor het gesprek is het vertrek van de BBC-top, vanwege een rapport dat aantoont dat er sprake is van bewuste manipulatie. Dit kwam aan het licht door de speech van Trump in een Panorama-documentaire, die selectief is bewerkt, waardoor het onterecht leek alsof de president de bestorming op 6 januari 2021 had aangemoedigd.

In de Nederlandse media wordt voornamelijk gedaan alsof het gaat om een “vormfoutje” in één fragment, maar in werkelijkheid is er nog veel meer aan de hand. Ook in Nederland gaat het mis met de media en wordt er bewust gemanipuleerd. Het ontbreekt aan objectiviteit en er is veel activisme, vermomd als journalistiek. Wordt het niet eens tijd om kritisch naar de status van onze journalistiek te kijken? En moet de schoonmaak die nu bezig is bij de BBC ook niet eens hoognodig in Hilversum plaatsvinden?
