Reform UK will challenge the government’s plan to delay dozens of local council elections by a year, citing threats to democracy.
A two-day court hearing is set for 19 February. Nearly half of 63 councils requested delays due to local government reorganisation, but opposition parties and Reform UK argue it undermines voters’ rights. The government says delays are for efficiency and resource reasons.

There is no reason for a reorganisation to require immediate elections. They could have transitional arrangements for the sitting elected Councellors to take on an interim position. The election is for democratic accountability, not administrative convenience!
Personally I dont think Speakers of the house should be politically affiliated, just like the supreme counrt in the us as a neutral judge to make it a fair proceeding.
