I survived the United Airlines Sioux City, Iowa plane crash.
if i would apply the bizarre nature of this to LOTM novel, this will actually be caused by anomalies and supernatural phenomena caused by the Door(which bends space and distance) and Error(bug in reality, time of an object stolen to make it be in a place in a different time).
I love how the first story is only weird because “it was loaded onto our plane” and there’s no mention of the cargo potentially being loaded onto another plane that leaves before you do (yes that’s actually extremely common)
And there’s second one says nothing about which way the wind is blowing. Literally could be explained away as a tailwind

Altitude is safety, pilots have more time to react to an upset or failure while having less workload, they can glide longer distances without engines and cruising altitude is typically way above any bad weather.
The sky didn’t even sound that scary it actually sounded super cool, also they big “monsters” didn’t hurt anyone so that kind of makes it less scary
